Come and Sing!

This year’s annual Come and Sing afternoon is this Saturday 23 November from 1.30pm. We’ve now closed online registration, but if you’d like to come along, do get in touch with us.

Once again, we’ll be in the lovely setting of the Merritt Centre at Sherborne Girls, which has great facilities and a good acoustic – and serves delicious traybakes as a bonus too. As it is (almost) Advent, this seems the perfect opportunity for a seasonal sing to welcome the festive season. It might be a little early for Hark the Herald, but we hope you’ll join us for lots of lovely Advent and early Christmas music, led by our Musical Director Paul Ellis and accompanied by composer, organist and pianist David Bednall.

There will be an extended tea break and tea and cake will be available in the café at the Merritt Centre, included in your fee. We’ll finish the afternoon at 5.30pm with an informal performance and your friends and family will be very welcome. Parking will be available at the Oxley Sports Centre, across the road from the school.

Our Come and Sing is part of our fundraising activity and there will be a charge of £25 per person including refreshments and music. It would be helpful if you could pay your registration fee in advance to avoid queues on the day, and there are two ways to do this, either by online bank transfer or by sending a cheque made payable to Sherborne Festival Chorus. Contact us for full details.

What is a Come and Sing event?

Our annual Come and Sing events are open to all singers of all ages and levels of experience. The events consist of a ‘workshop’ style rehearsal followed by an informal concert, all led by our Musical Director Paul Ellis. Music is provided for loan on the day and we have a break for tea, coffee and biscuits during the rehearsal for people to socialise and get to know each other. It’s a great way to get a taste of a new work or dust the cobwebs off an old one and the informal atmosphere ensures it is a lot of fun.
